Max Stewart was born near Pittsburgh as Marjorie Stewart, the third Marjorie in her family. She grew up believing that she had no aptitude for art.
Marjorie got three degrees in English and came to West Virginia to teach writing at Glenville State College. During a trip to a craft store to get supplies for her grandson’s school project, she saw a box of 48 two-ounce bottles of acrylic paint. She became Max and began to paint. She has been painting ever since – about six years now. She has had two paintings in juried shows and six published in a literary journal.
